Amundi Tokenizes a European Equity Index Fund on Ethereum — Tokenization Goes Mainstream

Europe's largest asset manager has just put another traditional fund on a public blockchain. Amundi announced on November 6, 2026 that it has launched a tokenized share class for one of its flagship European equity-index funds, issued directly on the public Ethereum blockchain — the latest sign that tokenization is moving from pilot projects into the core of mainstream asset management.

The announcement matters because of who is doing it. Amundi manages close to €2.4 trillion in assets, making it Europe's largest asset manager and one of the ten biggest in the world. When a manager of that size puts a flagship equity product on-chain, it is no longer an experiment on the sidelines — it is the industry's centre of gravity shifting.

What Amundi actually launched

A tokenized share class is not a new fund. It is the same fund, with its units recorded on a blockchain instead of only in a traditional register. In this case:

  • The share class is issued on the public Ethereum blockchain, giving every unit a transparent, traceable on-chain record.
  • CACEIS, the European asset-servicing group, supplies the tokenization technology and related infrastructure.
  • The underlying fund keeps operating through conventional distribution channels — investors can still reach it the old way. The tokenized share class sits alongside the existing structure, not in place of it.

Amundi has not disclosed the name of the fund or how much money sits in the tokenized share class, and no subscription volumes or secondary-market activity have been released yet. Cointelegraph reported on November 5 that the index behind the fund tracks 600 European companies, though that detail was not confirmed in Amundi's own announcement — so treat it as secondary reporting for now.

This is not Amundi's first on-chain move

The equity-index launch is the third step in a pattern, not a one-off:

  • November 2025: Amundi launched the first tokenized shares of one of its money-market funds — the share class Amundi Funds Cash EUR – J28 EUR DLT — also on Ethereum, with CACEIS providing wallets and a blockchain-based order platform. Its first transaction took place on November 4, 2025.
  • March 2026: Amundi went live with a tokenized mutual fund alongside Spiko — the Spiko Amundi Overnight Swap Fund (SAFO), a UCITS fund using Chainlink for automated net-asset-value reporting, launching with $100 million in committed assets.
  • June 2026: Amundi, CACEIS and Ant International announced milestones in their collaboration on blockchain-powered treasury and tokenised investment solutions.

The same infrastructure partner, CACEIS, runs through all three. That is the tell: Amundi is building one tokenization stack and reusing it across money-market funds, then equity funds — the classic path from pilot to production.

Why tokenization keeps winning

The tokenization of real-world assets has expanded fast. The Block's data dashboard tracked the market growing from $15.2 billion at the start of 2025 to $37.1 billion by late November 2025 — more than doubling in under a year. Fund managers are drawn to the same three promises:

  • Transparent record-keeping: every unit and transfer is visible on a public ledger, with full transaction traceability.
  • Faster settlement: fund units that settle on-chain can move in minutes rather than the days traditional fund settlement can take.
  • Wider distribution: a tokenized share class can eventually reach investors and platforms that the old plumbing could not serve.

None of that is guaranteed on day one — Amundi itself has said nothing yet about wallet integration, settlement timing or investor onboarding for this share class. But the direction of travel is now hard to argue with: the world's biggest traditional managers are no longer asking whether to tokenize, but what to tokenize next.

What it means for crypto

For the crypto industry, the Amundi news is a different kind of validation than a price rally. Ethereum is being chosen as the settlement layer for a flagship product from a €2.4 trillion manager — not for a crypto-native fund, but for a plain European equity index. That is exactly the use case blockchain builders have talked about for years: public chains as boring, reliable infrastructure for traditional finance.

It also connects to a wider trend Zimbuck has been tracking. Earlier this week we covered how Bullish and Schroders are pushing tokenization forward — and the pattern is the same everywhere: institutions start with money-market funds, then move to equities, then to everything else. If you want to understand how to follow any of this on-chain, our guide on how to track any transaction with a blockchain explorer shows exactly how public records like these work.

FAQ

What is a tokenized share class?
It is a share class of an existing fund whose ownership records are kept on a blockchain. The fund, its strategy and its regulation stay the same — only the record-keeping layer changes.

Does this mean anyone can buy the Amundi fund with crypto?
No. The announcement says nothing about crypto payments or retail access. The fund continues to operate through conventional channels; the tokenized share class is an additional, institutional-grade format for now.

Why Ethereum and not a private chain?
Amundi chose the public Ethereum blockchain for transparent record-keeping and full traceability — the same reason it used Ethereum for its money-market tokenization in 2025.

How big is the tokenized fund market now?
Tokenized real-world assets grew from about $15.2 billion at the start of 2025 to $37.1 billion by late November 2025, according to The Block's data dashboard — and Amundi's move suggests 2026 will be bigger still.

Amundi's equity-index tokenization will be judged on what follows: real subscription volumes, real settlement times, real secondary trading. But the signal is already clear — the biggest names in European finance are building on public blockchains, and Ethereum is where they are building.
