Tokenized stocks just took two big steps in two days. On November 3, NYSE-listed exchange Bullish selected Solana, Aptos and Ethereum as its first networks for expanding its stock tokenization services, targeting companies seeking to issue tokenized shares. On November 4, Morgan Stanley became one of the first banks to tokenize US equities and Treasuries through DTCC's newly launched Tokenization Services. Wall Street's on-chain shift is no longer a pilot announcement — it is a race over which chains the tokenized market will actually run on.Bullish's choice matters because it is a chain-selection decision, not just a product launch. Solana brings high throughput and a deep retail trading base, Aptos brings a newer high-performance chain courting institutional builders, and Ethereum brings the deepest liquidity and the largest existing tokenized-asset ecosystem. By naming all three at once, Bullish is betting that tokenized stocks will not live on one chain — they will live wherever the issuers and the traders already are. Morgan Stanley and the DTCC plumbing The Morgan Stanley move runs on different plumbing. DTCC introduced its Tokenization Services (DTS) on October 28, enabling the creation of tokenized representations backed by securities held in Depository Trust Company custody, aiming to enhance liquidity, collateral mobility and capital efficiency. Twenty DTC participants signed up at launch, including JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity, UBS, State Street and Citadel Securities, and the service connects to the Canton Network and DTCC's private Besu network. DTC's custody and book-entry settlement cover securities worth more than $114 trillion. The honest caveat is that version one of DTS is deliberately limited. Securities can move between registered wallets around the clock, but those movements are free-of-value — the securities leg moves without the cash leg, and tokens currently carry no collateral or settlement value inside DTC's risk system. Only registered wallets can receive, and DTC participants bear responsibility for wallet activity. In plain terms: this is on-chain certificates and permissioned digital securities first, and a full on-chain settlement market only when securities and cash move together. That is still a large step — the custody, the participants and the rails are real — but it is not yet the finished market. Not everyone is cheering Tokenized stocks also have organised opposition. Amazon, Tesla and SpaceX lead 56 firms opposing OKX's tokenized stocks plan, a reminder that issuers themselves are split: some see tokenization as a cheaper, always-on way to reach investors, while others worry about control, disclosure and how tokenized shares interact with existing shareholder rights. The fight over tokenized stocks is therefore two fights at once — a technology race between chains, and a legal fight over what a tokenized share actually is. The contrast with the decentralised side is sharp. Tokenized-stock trading on decentralised exchanges already hit a $2.7 billion week (covered in our Aero report), while the institutional route through DTCC is permissioned, wallet-gated and settlement-limited for now. Both tracks are growing, but they are growing toward different markets: one toward open, 24/7 trading, the other toward regulated custody and collateral. The winner may not be one track — it may be the bridge between them, and Bullish's three-chain pick is a bet on exactly that bridge. What to watch next Three things decide how fast this goes. First, which issuers actually list tokenized shares on Bullish's chosen chains — announcements are cheap, listings are not. Second, whether DTCC's service adds the cash leg, turning free-of-value transfers into real settlement. Third, how regulators treat the OKX opposition: if major issuers win limits on tokenized-share plans, the decentralised track grows faster; if they lose, the institutional track accelerates.
