Decentralized finance held its ground on November 4, 2026, with total value locked (TVL) across all chains at $82.332 billion according to DefiLlama, alongside $292.936 billion in stablecoins in circulation and $7.586 billion in 24-hour decentralized exchange volume. The headline is steadiness rather than growth: DefiLlama's daily series put total TVL at $81.8 billion on November 3, down from $144.5 billion a year earlier and $111.9 billion at the start of 2026, and measured in ether, Ethereum's locked capital has fallen only 7.8% year on year even as its dollar value fell 46.9% — the decline is mostly price, not an exodus of coins. Ethereum still dominates, holding $43.65 billion or 53.2% of all DeFi TVL across the 290 blockchains DefiLlama tracks. In the 30 days to November 2, users paid $2.27 billion in fees, of which $1.25 billion stayed with the protocols — DeFi, in other words, is still earning even while its dollar TVL sits far below the 2021 record.

The leaderboard itself barely moved, which is part of the story. Lido leads liquid staking at $22.202 billion, followed by lending giant Aave at $16.487 billion across 23 chains and Morpho at $11.28 billion across 45 chains — together the top three hold roughly $50 billion, more than 60% of all DeFi TVL. Binance staked ETH sits at $8.887 billion, Spark at $7.014 billion, Uniswap at $3.568 billion and PancakeSwap at $2.237 billion, with Hyperliquid at $1.906 billion and Jupiter at $1.705 billion rounding out the top tier. Stablecoin lending tells a calmer sub-story: DeFiStar's tracked pools held $24.80 billion on November 4, up 0.6% over 24 hours but down 2.1% over seven days, with a TVL-weighted lending APY of 3.93% — a balanced market, in its reading, with no strong move in either direction. Among pools with at least $1 million TVL and a safety score of 70 or more, the highest APY was USDC on Morpho (Ethereum) at 5.30%, while the hottest pools by utilisation — USDC on Compound V3 Optimism at 96.1%, USDT on Spark Ethereum at 95.1% — show borrowers still crowding the cheapest stablecoin liquidity. Avalanche's quiet jump, and the Aave V4 gap to watch

The most interesting single-chain move came from Avalanche. Its C-Chain TVL closed November 2 at $586.04 million, up 10.28% from $531.40 million on November 1, and held at $583.16 million on the November 3 partial day — a jump that survived a second day, so it is not a one-print artefact. Avalanche credits part of the rise to Aave V4 deposits on the chain passing a claimed $125 million, helped by Ethena Pay's new Earn+ product, though DefiLlama shows a lower $85.7 million TVL with $45.3 million borrowed for Aave V4 on Avalanche — the gap between the project's deposit claim and the dashboard's measurement is worth watching, and the flat AVAX price (about $8.60) plus stablecoin supply still under $1.40 billion suggest the gain is lending deposits, not broad capital returning. The lesson for DeFi watchers is the one DefiLlama's own data teaches: TVL is a stock measure — how much capital trusts a protocol — not how much it earns or how often it is used, and a single-chain jump driven by one distribution partner's incentives deserves a second print before it is called a trend. For now, DeFi's centre of gravity has not moved: Lido, Aave and Morpho still anchor more than half the sector, stablecoin lending pays just under 4% on average, and the next question is whether Avalanche's step holds above $570 million or slips back under $540 million. FAQ

What is DeFi TVL? Total value locked: the dollar value of all coins users have deposited in a protocol — lending deposits, exchange liquidity, collateral for stablecoins. It measures how much capital trusts a protocol, not how much it earns.

How much is locked in DeFi now? $82.332 billion across all chains on November 4, 2026 (DefiLlama), with $292.936 billion in stablecoins and $7.586 billion in 24-hour DEX volume.

Which protocols lead DeFi? Lido ($22.202 billion), Aave ($16.487 billion) and Morpho ($11.28 billion) — together roughly $50 billion, over 60% of all DeFi TVL.

What are stablecoin lending yields paying? A TVL-weighted 3.93% across DeFiStar's tracked pools on November 4, with the highest qualifying pool (USDC on Morpho Ethereum) at 5.30%.

Why did Avalanche TVL jump? Avalanche C-Chain TVL rose 10.28% to $586.04 million on November 2, helped by Aave V4 deposits (claimed $125 million; DefiLlama shows $85.7 million TVL) and Ethena Pay's Earn+ product.

Is DeFi shrinking? In dollars, yes versus a year ago ($144.5 billion then, $81.8 billion on November 3) — but in ether terms Ethereum's locked capital fell only 7.8%, so much of the drop is price, not coins leaving.
