Strategy's $19.53 Billion Quarter: How a Bitcoin Treasury Turned a Price Rally Into Record Profit

Strategy, the company formerly known as MicroStrategy, just reported one of the most extraordinary quarters in corporate history — and almost none of it came from selling software. For the third quarter of 2026, Strategy reported net income of $19.53 billion, up from $2.79 billion in the same quarter a year earlier, on the back of a $20.91 billion gain on its digital assets. Diluted earnings per share hit $44.75, compared with $8.42 in Q3 2025, and operating income reached a record. The numbers are real, filed with the SEC — but they are also a mirror of Bitcoin's price, not of a business selling more product. Understanding the difference is the whole story.

HEADLINE NUMBERS

Net income $19.53 billion vs $2.79 billion a year earlier; net income attributable to common stockholders $19.12 billion after $419.6 million of preferred dividends; gain on digital assets $20.91 billion; diluted EPS $44.75 beating analyst expectations of roughly $16.52-$17.25; software revenue $125.4 million, down 3% year over year, missing the roughly $129 million forecast by about $3.58 million; shares fell about 3.5% in after-hours trading despite the record profit.

THE BITCOIN PILE

As of October 25, 2026, Strategy held 848,517 BTC, up 26% since the start of the year; bought $14.33 billion of Bitcoin year to date; cost basis $64.02 billion (about $75,446 per coin average) vs market value $68.90 billion at $81,200 on October 23; roughly $4 billion unrealised profit; a deferred tax asset of about $4.12 billion written off in June then restored in Q3; no new Bitcoin purchases in the week ending October 25 — instead $2.04 billion of STRC preferred buybacks.

FUNDING MACHINE

Holders of STRC, STRF, STRK, STRD approved daily dividend accrual (99.3% of votes cast); STRC first record date November 1, payment November 2; others January 1 record / January 4 payment, then every calendar day a record date; CEO Phong Le called it a natural step toward a tokenized 24/7/365 financial system; Digital Credit carries $16 billion notional across ten listed securities; analysts estimated STRC alone added $725 million a year in dividend obligations.

SAYLOR'S CLAIM

'We're at the beginning of the next bitcoin bull market. Banks are embracing bitcoin, bitcoin's dominance among digital assets is growing, institutional demand is back, and bitcoin price is 21% above its 200-week moving average.' CFO Andrew Kang steps down November 5, COO Reza Virasteh becomes CFO January 2027. Counterpoint: Bitcoin fought to hold $80,000 in late October, fell below $79,000 on October 29 amid the suspected Binance scare, US spot Bitcoin ETF investors average entry about $81,500 (Glassnode) — roughly 2% underwater; Bitcoin per share fell 3.7% year to date as share count grew faster than holdings.

ANALYSIS

Do not confuse revaluation profit with cash earned (September 30 cash $2.50 billion, short-term investments $3.40 billion); Strategy is the purest leveraged listed proxy for Bitcoin; watch the funding — pause in purchases, STRC buybacks, daily dividends — as the cost of leverage.

FAQ

Q3 net income $19.53B, EPS $44.75; profit from $20.91B digital-asset gain, not software ($125.4M, -3%); holds 848,517 BTC at $75,446 average cost; no purchases week ending Oct 25, $2.04B STRC buybacks; daily dividends approved 99.3%, STRC Nov 1-2, others Jan 1-4; shares fell ~3.5% after hours because profit is revaluation and BTC per share fell 3.7% YTD.
