On a single day, three of the biggest names in crypto trading all told some customers: not this token, not this wallet, not right now

November 2 was not a day of one exchange outage or one delisting. It was a day of access changes across several major exchanges at once: Coinbase Prime began migrating Aerodrome Finance (AERO) and Velodrome Finance (VELO) into a new Aero token with different treatment for different custody products, Binance Japan kept withdrawal restrictions in place for dozens of tokens, KuCoin announced 23 token delistings while launching tokenized US stocks behind geographic restrictions, and Bitget prepared to close automated SOXX futures positions during an ETF split. None of these, on its own, is a market crash. Together, they are a reminder of something traders forget in calm weeks: on a centralized exchange, access to your own tokens is a product feature, and product features change on the exchange's timetable, not yours.

  1. Coinbase Prime: the same migration, two very different outcomes

Coinbase began migrating AERO and VELO into the new Aero token on November 2. For eligible Prime Trading balances, the conversion is automatic between November 2 and 6. For ordinary Coinbase customers, the migration window is shorter, ending November 4. Coinbase said the conversion carries no transaction fees and that AERO trading remains available, although sends and receives are temporarily suspended during the process. That is the straightforward part. The complication is Prime Vault: AERO and VELO held in Prime Vault are explicitly NOT converted automatically. Prime Vault customers were instructed to transfer their holdings into Prime Trading before November 2 to qualify for the automated process. Legacy AERO was scheduled for delisting from Prime Vault on November 2, with the replacement token expected to become available in Vault on November 6. Prime Vault and Trading continue supporting VELO sends and receives, but VELO held in Vault remains excluded from automatic conversion. The publicly available notices do not explain how an institutional customer who missed the deadline can exchange remaining legacy AERO held in Prime Vault, or whether a separate recovery arrangement will follow after delisting. That gap is the real story for affected holders: the tokens are not described as lost, but the route back to the new token for Vault balances left behind is, at the time of reporting, unresolved. Separately, Coinbase reported degraded performance across its decentralized exchange, Borrow and Lend products beginning at 00:14 Pacific Standard Time on November 2, and later resolved that disruption — a useful reminder to check an exchange's status page before assuming a failed transaction is your own fault.

2. KuCoin's 23 delistings and Binance Japan's withdrawal limits

KuCoin announced 23 token delistings — the kind of routine housekeeping that still matters enormously if you hold one of the 23, because a delisting ends the easy exit: liquidity thins, spreads widen, and the withdrawal window becomes the deadline that matters. At the same time KuCoin launched tokenized US stocks with extensive geographic restrictions, a reminder that tokenized equities are not the same product everywhere: availability depends on where you live, not just on whether the token exists. Binance Japan, meanwhile, continued restricting withdrawals for dozens of tokens despite reporting that customer assets are unaffected — restrictions that protect the platform during an incident or migration can still leave individual users unable to move funds when they most want to. Bitget's move completes the picture from the trader's side: automated trading strategies holding SOXXUSDT perpetual futures face forced settlement during an ETF split, because a bot cannot hold through a corporate action the way a human can pause and think. 3. What to check before the next access change hits your tokens

  • Delisting and migration notices first: read the exchange's own notice, not a social-media summary — the dates, the wallet types covered and the withdrawal deadline are the whole story.
  • - Vault versus trading balances: as the Coinbase case shows, the same token in a different custody product can get different treatment. Know which product holds your tokens.
  • - Withdrawal windows are deadlines: after a delisting, the withdrawal date matters more than the trading date. Miss it and the exit gets much harder.
  • - Bots need corporate-action plans: ETF splits, token migrations and delistings all break automated strategies that assume the instrument never changes.
  • - Geography is a feature: tokenized stocks and other new products launch with restrictions — check eligibility for your country before assuming access.

FAQ

Did Coinbase lose AERO or VELO holders' tokens? No — the notices describe a migration with different treatment by product, not a loss; but the post-deadline route for legacy AERO left in Prime Vault was unresolved in the public notices. When did the Coinbase migration run? Prime Trading conversion November 2-6; ordinary customers' window ending November 4; replacement token expected in Prime Vault on November 6.Why do exchanges delist tokens at all? Low liquidity, compliance reviews, project changes or, as with migrations, a token being replaced — the reason matters less than the deadline it sets for holders. Are Binance Japan's withdrawal restrictions a sign customer funds are gone? The exchange reported customer assets unaffected; restrictions can be precautionary, but they still limit what users can do until lifted. What should I do when my exchange announces a migration? Read the official notice, confirm which wallet product holds your tokens, move them if the notice requires it before the deadline, and keep a record of the announcement.
