The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced its fiscal year 2027 examination priorities on October 23, 2026, setting out the risks its examiners will focus on across financial markets.

Tokenization and private credit in focus

The agenda includes tokenization, Treasury clearing reforms, private funds and private credit. Cybersecurity, customer information and advanced technologies that affect trading and fraud prevention are also on the list.

Investor protection remains central

Examiners will assess advisers’ obligations to clients, conflicts of interest, recommendations and compliance systems. The SEC also highlighted complex, illiquid and higher-risk products offered to retail investors.

The program spans more than 34,000 registrants, including advisers, funds, brokers and important market infrastructure firms.

What investors should understand

The announcement describes supervisory priorities. It does not approve individual tokenized products or guarantee investment safety. The SEC said its list is not exhaustive and that examiners may adjust their focus as risks and market conditions change.
