What Is a DEX? How Decentralized Exchanges Work — and How They Differ From Binance and Coinbase
A decentralized exchange, or DEX, lets you trade crypto without ever handing your coins to a company. There is no account to open, no deposit to make, and no order book run by an exchange — instead, smart contracts on a blockchain execute your swap, and you keep custody of your funds the whole time. In July 2026, DEXs handled a record 19.5% of all spot trading volume, an all-time high,...

What is DeFi? Decentralized finance runs on smart contracts instead of banks — lend, borrow, trade and earn interest straight from your wallet, 24/7, no permission needed. But there's no safety net: smart contract bugs and scams are real risks. Do your own research first.

HyperLend Proposes an Aave V3 Fork on Elysium — and Aave Is Still the Lending King at $16.9 Billion
HyperLend has asked the Aave DAO to approve a friendly fork of Aave V3 on the Elysium Layer 2 network, with a twist that puts its own token at the centre of the deal: every cent of HyperLend's share of fees from the new deployment would go to buying back HPL tokens on the open market. The proposal, submitted on November 6, 2026, is the freshest sign that DeFi's biggest lending brand is still...

What Is Yield Farming? How DeFi Yields Actually Work — and the Real Risks
Intro Yield farming is the part of DeFi that sounds too good to be true — and sometimes it is. In plain terms, yield farming means putting your crypto to work in decentralised finance protocols to earn a return: lending it out, providing liquidity for traders, or staking it in a pool. The yields can look spectacular on screen. The risks are real, and they are the part most beginners...

DeFi TVL Drops to $80.7 Billion in a Day as the Sell-Off Hits Lending and DEXes
Decentralised finance is feeling the full force of this week's sell-off. Total value locked across DeFi protocols has fallen to ~$80.7 billion on November 6, 2026 — down ~5.3% in 24 hours and ~6.0% over the past 7 days, according to DefiLlama. That is a fast unwind for a sector that measures its health in locked capital. When TVL drops this quickly, it means users are pulling funds out of...

Loopscale Freezes Solana Lending After a Week of Attacks on Its Vaults
Solana lending protocol Loopscale has frozen all deposits and withdrawals after a week-long assault on its vaults, the protocol announced on November 5. The freeze is the latest reminder that in decentralised finance, the attack surface is not only the smart contract — it is everything around it. Loopscale said it had been absorbing more than 30,000 malicious API requests a day for...

Polygon Weighs a Hard Fork to Recover $6.8M in Stolen POL — What It Means for DeFi
Polygon has confirmed that 70.49 million POL tokens, worth roughly $6.8 million, are locked in five attacker-controlled addresses on its network — and Binance and Polymarket are now pushing a hard fork to take them back. The proposal is slated for discussion and vote on Nov 5, 2026, and if it passes, it would be one of the most consequential governance decisions in Polygon's history. For...

What Is Impermanent Loss? How Liquidity Providers Lose Money in DeFi — Even When Prices Rise
Providing liquidity to a decentralised exchange sounds like free money: deposit two tokens, earn a share of every trade's fee, and watch the yield roll in. Many first-time liquidity providers get a shock instead — they withdraw less value than they would have had by simply holding the same tokens in their wallet. That gap has a name: impermanent loss. It is the single most misunderstood...

DeFi TVL Rebounds to $85 Billion as Lending Giants Lido, Aave and Morpho Lead the Recovery
Decentralised finance is rebounding, with total value locked rising to $85.032 billion on November 5, 2026, according to DeFiLlama data cited in this cycle. The recovery is not a broad, speculative bounce across every protocol. It is led by lending and liquid-staking giants, with Lido, Aave and Morpho at the front, and it follows a period when TVL had slipped back toward $82 billion. For users,...

What Is TVL in DeFi? What Total Value Locked Counts, What It Misses, and Why It Can Mislead You
Total Value Locked — TVL — is the number every DeFi headline quotes and almost nobody explains. When a report says DeFi holds about $83 billion, or that Lido leads with about $22.4 billion and Aave follows with about $16.7 billion (DeFiLlama, November 4, 2026), it is quoting TVL. Beginners naturally read it as "how big DeFi is" or "how much money people trust these protocols with."...

DeFi TVL Holds Above $82 Billion as Lido, Aave and Morpho Lead the Lending Pack
Decentralized finance held its ground on November 4, 2026, with total value locked (TVL) across all chains at $82.332 billion according to DefiLlama, alongside $292.936 billion in stablecoins in circulation and $7.586 billion in 24-hour decentralized exchange volume. The headline is steadiness rather than growth: DefiLlama's daily series put total TVL at $81.8 billion on November 3, down from...
