Base Goes 10x Faster: Denim Upgrade Brings 200-Millisecond Blocks to Ethereum's Biggest Layer 2
Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 network built by Coinbase, switched on its Denim upgrade on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 18:00 UTC — and from that moment the network started producing a brand-new block every 200 milliseconds. The first 200-millisecond block, number 53,556,127, landed at 18:00:01 UTC, one second after the last two-second block. That is ten blocks for every one Base made...

Base just went 10x faster. ⚡

Coinbase's Layer 2 network Base has activated its Denim upgrade on mainnet — now producing a full block every 200 milliseconds, or 5 blocks per second, up from one block every 2 seconds.

The upgrade retires Flashblocks, adds millisecond-precision timestamps (BaseTime) and new B20 token transfer controls. It's Base's fourth mainnet upgrade since its 2023 launch.

Faster blocks mean faster trades, payments and apps on Base. 🚀
